About us
Cultura Africa promotes communication among Czech citizens and Africans via cultural and educational activities aiming to develop a tolerant multicultural environment.
We:
- realize multicultural programs for the schools and other educational institutions regarding the: life in African countries, cultures, art, developmental cooperation and also rasism, xenophobia
- play African fairytales for children and create music dance and drama performances
- provide information services for the African students and Africans
- cooperate with the West Bohemian University in Pilsen and other academic institutions in Europe and Africa.
Founders:
Jan Bashaijha Mwesigwa
Director
Bash was born in 1980 in the family of Ugandan father and Czech mother. In 2003 obtained bachelor degree from Faculty of philosophy of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Studied 1 year at the Duncan Center dance conservatory in Prague and 2 years master course Civil Sector at the Faculty of Humanitites of the Charles University in Prague. Bash is interested in modern and African traditional dance, intercultural education and youth work. He visited Uganda on a number of occasions to gain dance experience and provide project man agement workshops. In 2009 he established an e-shop with Ugandan crafts (www.afroobchod.cz). Bash is also making living as a webdesigner and layout artist. He currently lives in Amsterdam and travels to Czech to provide workshops.
Liběna Kobuyambi Yeka
Yambi, sister of Bash, was born in 1982. She is a youth leader/worker/dancer and promoter of communication and cultural exchange. Since 2003 she has been a member of a spiritual organization Brahma Kumaris and later directed its centre in Pilsen. Yambi had lived for some time in Japan and Uganda and travels to India. She is holder of ISO9001:2000 certificate on communication skills, self management, time management, youth and leadership.
Kateřina Mildnerová
Katka was born in 1978. She is a PhD graduate from the Faculty of philosophy of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, the Department of anthropology where she currently teaches. Katka's interest lies in religion in African countries. She did a research of woodoo in Zambia. Katka is actively involved in an annual conference on African studies, Viva Africa (www.vivaafrica.cz).
Tomáš Machalík
Tomáš was born in 1978. He is PhD graduate from the Faculty of philosophy of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, the Department of anthropology. Tomáš is interested in social and cultural anthropology in Africa, he did his personal research in Namibia. Tomáš is actively involved in the Viva Africa conference event (www.vivaafrica.cz). Currently works as project manager at the National Youth Agency in Prague.
